Belief Systemsby Jeffery CombsBelief systems. These are the thoughts we adopt to rule our lives. Why is it that "One mans gold may be another mans junk?" Why is it that two people are faced with a challenge, one person sees certain failure while the other person sees adversity as a reason to succeed? Most people buy their excuses and just get by in life. They focus on making a living instead of focusing on designing a life. Many people are seduced into believing that events conduct their lives and that their environment has shaped who they are today. No greater lie has ever been told. The truth of the matter is, its not the events of our lives that shape us but our beliefs as to what those events mean. It is never the environment and it is never the events, but the meaning we attach to these events. How we see, view and interpret them that shapes who we are today and who we will become tomorrow. Beliefs are what allow you to play and win the game of life or sit on the bench of life and collect splinters. Beliefs are what separate the winners from the whiners and the champs from the chumps! Our beliefs are the guiding force to tell us what will lead to pain and what will lead to pleasure. Once you believe a statement to be true it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. "Why even try?" or "Ill give it a shot," and "Ill give it my best effort," are really statements that mean, "I dont believe Ill make it but Ill go through the motions to trick myself into believing that I did something." All the while you "know" or "believe" that you will fail. How many of you may have been told in school that you were a "slow learner?" These are the types of statements that if we hear them often enough we begin to believe them. Therefore we perform according to others and our beliefs of us. I had one client who told me he couldnt read any success books because he was a slow reader and had been since elementary school. I pointed out to this gentleman that he was a national conference call host with the company he was currently marketing products for and that he seemed to do a fine job reading presentation scripts. After thinking about this he said, "Oh my gosh, your right!" "Do you mean that Im not a slow reader after all?" He was truly shocked and the reality brought him to tears, he was never a slow reader! He was conditioned to believe he was a slow reader because his teachers and his mother had told him he was. Are you living with old, handed down beliefs? If so, are you sure theyre yours? Choose your beliefs wisely because its your beliefs more so than anything else, which shapes your life. ******************************************************** Listen in on Jeff and Lisas free weekly interactive conference call every Wednesday night at 5pm (EST) Call: (865) 362-4050 enter pin code 7717# (The call is free, however toll charges apply You will find support by visiting her web sites: for prospecting, TheNewEntrepreneurs.com; for training and resources, NetworkMarketingInfo.com; to reach Rene, Yarnell.com.
